When the IRS DOES Call You on the Phone – Here Comes the Annual Survey

01/22/2010

Just out from the IRS: The Small Business/Self-Employed division of the IRS will conduct its annual telephone survey of taxpayers starting this week and ending mid-April 2010. The survey targets small businesses (S corporations, C corporations, LLCs, partnerships) and self-employed taxpayers (sole proprietorships, rental property owners, farmers). The point of the survey is to gather opinions about the delivery of Small Business/Self-Employed IRS products and services.

If you are selected at random for this survey, you will receive an advance letter from the survey contractor, Pacific Market Research (PMR) along with a letter from the IRS explaining the purpose and importance of the survey. PMR will conduct the survey itself by telephone. Each survey will last about 15 to 18 minutes. The survey is VOLUNTARY. Responses are ANONYMOUS. The interviewers will not ask for any personal or financial information – they will NOT ASK FOR SSNs, EINs, BANKING OR CREDIT CARD INFO. If someone calls saying they are from PMR/IRS and wants personal information, hang up.

If you have questions, you may contact IRS Policy Analyst Dorian Shawcross at 202-283-2809.
