About Us

Kathy Zaffore, CPA, Principal
kathyz@zaffore.com

Grew up in a CPA practice in Los Angeles, so destiny was sealed. Family also owned and operated a motel business at Disneyland. Lost count of number of times she’s ridden the Matterhorn. Earned bachelor’s degree at University of Southern California. Finished second master’s degree in accounting at University of Colorado – Denver. After years with other firms, started her own practice in the fall of 1994 to follow her heart – working with people, helping them grow and manage their businesses and their wealth. Enjoys her two horses, the Pinery wildlife, her grandson Ian (now 7!) and cooking (because she does so little of it). Learning Italian so that the next trip will be more interactive (it’s a control thing). Va bene!

Kim Ruane, CPA, Practice Manager
kimr@zaffore.com

Hails from the Chicago area. Finished B.S. in Accounting at University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana. Passed through California and New York on her way to Colorado. REALLY enjoys doing tax returns, but handles accounting, payroll, and other tax issues as well, and keeps the practice on track as our Organization Maven. Helps clients set up investment portfolios on Quicken, which is a great Internet-interactive personal finance tool. Call her if you are resolved to get your investments organized. As a result of putting three kids through college, she has become an expert in college funding/tax issues/FAFSA filings – call her! Outside of the office, Kim enjoys scrapbooking, walking, and all things family. In the practice since 1996.

Kathleen Bell, CPA
kathleenb@zaffore.com
A Denver native! Completed a degree in accounting from University of Colorado – Denver. Following a stint as assistant controller for two large companies, “came to her senses” and entered public accounting. A Peachtree Wizard -- through the trials and tribulations of setting up and maintaining some challenging accounting environments. A dynamite trainer, too, helping a number of our clients get comfortable doing their own bookkeeping. Also works with QuickBooks and Quicken. Truly spoils her pampered group of clients—everyone wants to work with Kathleen. Just ask! Devoted to her family. Lives on the west side of town for quick escapes to the mountains. Makes the best lemon bars anywhere. In the practice from, well, the beginning – 1994.

Vicki Stevens, Computer Consultant and Bookkeeper
vstevens@granitesoftware.com
Continues to work with many of our small business clients on payroll and bookkeeping issues, but also cleans up clients’ computer files, designs small business computer systems, sets up computers and ethernet networks, installs software, troubleshoots problems and provides training. And in her spare time, manages AllReports, which exports data from QuickBooks and Peachtree and puts it into graphically correct payroll reports –especially for employers of lots of employees. If interested, see www.granitesoftware.com. Has been a lifesaver in the practice since 1996. Outside of work, manages a lively household of interesting pets (including a tarantula!) and a newly blended family with school-aged kids. Back in school, working on her AA in Accounting at Arapahoe Community College.

Lorie DeBerard, Bookkeeper and Office Manager
loried@zaffore.com
Has been answering your calls with enthusiasm and joy since 2003, and co-reigns over what could become chaos if left unchecked – even in our “paperless” office, we shuffle a lot of the white stuff. Lorie, with a degree in Business Administration from Colorado State University, also handles the bookkeeping for a number of our clients. A Colorado native, she grew up on a farm near Brush and reportedly knows the difference between steers and cows—a Colorado country girl distinctive. Outside of the office, Lorie manages a household of young adults (one still in high school and two in college) and a husband who is a Naval Commander, among other important things. She enjoys working out and running –when she has time!

Marj Spies, Bookkeeper and Office Manager
marj@zaffore.com
Has been working back office since 2008, tidying up after the various and sundry paper avalanches the rest of us create—in our “paperless” office. Marj is the Queen of the Archives – so if you need any records from recent to pre-turn-of-the-century…she is the one to talk to. She and husband Tom are the owners of the award winning Alpha Gymnastics here in Parker. With two jobs, Marj has little time for the crafts she loves – she is a talented quilter. But she makes sure there is time for her new grandson Hunter – still just a wee thing, but already a fashionisto, thanks to Marj and her trusty sewing machine.
