Kathy Zaffore, CPA, Principal
Grew up in a CPA practice in Los Angeles, so destiny was sealed. Family also owned and operated a motel business at Disneyland. Lost count of number of times she’s ridden the Matterhorn. Earned bachelor’s degree at University of Southern California—Fight On! Finished a second master’s degree in accounting at University of Colorado – Denver. After years with other firms, started a practice in the fall of 1994 to follow her heart – working with people, helping them grow and manage their businesses and their wealth. Enjoys the Pinery wildlife, her grandson Ian (now 10!) and cooking (probably because she does so little of it). Trying to make more time to walk and spend time with her horse. Continues the quest to semi-fluent Italian so that the next trip will be more interactive (it’s nice to know if you are on the right train). Va Bene!
Kim Ruane, CPA, Practice Manager
Hails from the Chicago area. Finished B.S. in Accounting at University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana. Passed through California and New York on her way to Colorado where she raised her family—now three great young adults. REALLY enjoys doing tax work but handles accounting, payroll, and other issues as well, while keeping the practice on track as our Organization Maven—AKA Practice Manager. Outside of the office, enjoys scrapbooking, walking, bicycling and all things family–especially poolside in the family retreat in Florida. Caught the travel bug a few years ago and has visited France and Italy and hopes that Ireland is in her near future. With the practice since 1996.
Kathleen Bell, CPA
A Denver native! Completed B.S. in Accounting from University of Colorado – Denver. Following a stint as assistant controller for two large companies, “came to her senses” and entered public accounting. A Sage50 (aka Peachtree) Wizard — through the trials and tribulations of setting up and maintaining some challenging accounting environments. Also works with QuickBooks and Sherware, a software specific to the oil/gas industry. Truly spoils her pampered group of clients. Lives on the west side of town for quick escapes to the mountains – she loves a good hike, especially with her family – including her young adult children (one in college, one in US Army). Makes the best lemon bars anywhere. In the practice from, well, the beginning – 1994.
Vicki Hager, Bookkeeper / Tax Tech / Computer Wiz
Another Denver native – well, Englewood. Wears many hats in our practice with good humor and a true desire to be helpful to all. Along with tax return preparation, works with many of our small business clients on payroll, sales tax and bookkeeping issues, cleans up clients’ computer files, installs software, troubleshoots problems and provides training on QuickBooks. Also serves as our one-person IT department. Outside of work, manages a lively extended household that includes middle/high school-aged kids and two young adults. And there are always interesting pets (including a tarantula). Breeds and sells hairless cats –they are really cute and wrinkly. Has been a lifesaver in the practice since 1996.
Michelle Cox, Bookkeeper
Arrived in Colorado from Pennsylvania. Completed a B.S. in Environmental Sciences from Metro State University with an interest in land use after working as an accounting assistant for Lutheran Medical Center for five years. Met her husband while stationed as a contractor in (are you ready for this?) ANTARCTICA. She spent a summer season there as a research scientist studying the continent’s water quality. Wow. Managed the bookkeeping and administration for a small, family-owned plumbing business for several years. Enjoys hiking and camping, photography (landscapes and trees) and being a mom of a cheerful second grader. Here at the office, taking on a wide-variety of bookkeeping duties for clients. Joined us in 2014.
Julie Bechtel, CPA
Nina Besant, Bookkeeper
Nina was born and raised in Parker, CO. She earned her B.S. in accounting and marketing from Colorado State University. After college, she spent five years in the oil and gas industry working in both the JIB and revenue departments. She married a fellow Parkerite in the summer of 2013 (whom she actually graduated next to in high school!). She left corporate America when they decided to start a family and ven. Outside of work she loves to spend time with family, craft and travel. Although traveling with a 1-year-old is slightly different then when it was just the two of them! She joined the firm in August 2015 and has enjoyed the fun loving environment at Zaffore ever since!
Laurie Paganini, Administrator
Hailing from the state of South Dakota, Laurie has lived in Colorado since 1996. After she earned her A.S. in Echocardiography, Laurie spent some time raising her children and gaining valuable knowledge from a wide variety of businesses. Laurie discovered her true passion in life was organization and administration, which has led her to be here with us in 2015. Her excitement in life comes from cheerleading events for her family; whether that’s her son in a dramatic role on stage or her daughter on the soccer field.
Amy Ross, Administrator
Spent her first 10 years in New Orleans, Louisana then moved to Roanoke, Virginia, where she met her husband. In 1999, she took her first plane trip EVER, which involved moving to Alice Springs, Australia! There, they welcomed a daughter a few months later and spent five wonderful years in the land of Oz. After that, she was off to North Yorkshire, England where she and her family lived for 11 years. Arrived in Colorado for the first time in 2014 and will call Parker home for the foreseeable future. Her main goal in life is to TRAVEL!! Having visited only 23 countries so far, she still has a lot to see. When not flying the friendly skies, she is usually at home in the kitchen making tasty goodies for everyone to enjoy. She is a fan of glitter and polka dots and brings fun and frivolity wherever she goes. Joined our office in summer 2015.
